Communication skills main components

As mentioned in our previous post that was an introduction of communication skills that a detailed posts will be posted, in order to have as much data as you can.

To have a great communication with any one you should have 3 main components:

  • Verbal Message: The words you chose to use.
  • Nonverbal Message: The points that are related to body language.
  • Para verbal Message: The way you say the word.
These three points will lead to main 2 points.
  • Send clear message to the receiver.
  • Receive and correctly understand the received message.

Verbal Message:

The words you say is the 1st main reason to send a clear and targeted message, you should not be a aggressive in using words, this will reduce the amount of resistance that will be sent to you from the listener.
For example you can use words like "It's not uncommon for.... ", "For some folks in similar situations...".
In addition of sending a verbal message you  should have a specific point to
talk about, chose the words that will make your speech clear, simple and less aggressive.

Non Verbal Message:

The power of Non verbal messages can't be ignored at all, As professor Albert mentioned in his book "Silent Message", our posture, gestures, facial expression, and spatial distance account for 55% of what is perceived and understood by others.

 Facial Expression:
The face is the most important item related to body language, the face expression can light up your speech with power and approval, The eye expression is the most powerful item in the face, it shows the joy, anger, or confusion. so always focus in your face and eye expressions.

Gestures and Postures:

Your body language can either create a Cold rejection or warm openness. like feeling of inflexibility is created when ever arms are crosses on each other on the chest, and you will have relaxed feeling when ever the listener is sitting quietly and with lose hands, So both of feelings can be transmitted to you by listener, depending on the body language of the listener.

Para Verbal message:
As we mentioned above that the Para Verbal message is the message that depends on the way you say the word, 38% of what we communicate with, is a Para Verbal  message, look at the following example.

I didn't say you are stupid

I didn't say you are stupid
I didn't say you are stupid

Did you feel the difference? Did you feel the different meanings?, it always depends on which word is emphasized. Just put in mind that when you are angry your speech is really hard and rapid, when you feel lazy and sleepy you speech will be really  slow. just focus on the way words are getting out of your mouth.
